George Street Saltaire, Bradford West Yorkshire pick up only
Having grown up the road from Saltaire, in Shipley, this somewhere I visit and revisit in my artwork often, I love walking the streets of this Victorian Mill village and visiting Salts Mill. When I was a kid this place was a very different village, there was no train station (although that changed quickly) and the shops were very much for people who lived here like your newsagents, bookshops, toyshop and sweetshops but this was also before it became a UNESCO World Heritage site as one of the first model villages to built, by it’s founder Titus Salt who named it after himself and it’s position on the River Aire.
Over the years it’s become an increasingly popular place to live, visit and even holiday and I think sometime it’s over looked that it’s still a place where people live with a strong community. I’m definitely guilty of removing the human life part of Saltaire but through this picture I really wanted to show the modern life of the village rather that it look like it did back in the Victorian times.
