Stoodley Pike Card Todmorden, Calderdale West Yorkshire

Stoodley Pike Card Todmorden, Calderdale West Yorkshire

£2.50

If you’ve ever been to Todmorden or Hebden Bridge it’s likely you will have spotted Stoodley Pike monument perched high on a hill top, a distinctive folly in the Calderdale landscape which I always look out for it as I drive along the moorland from Haworth. This prominent landmark of the Calder Valley in West Yorkshire, listed Grade II in 1984, is located near Mankinholes and Lumbutts it was constructed in 1856 at the end of the Crimean War. It’s also one of the locations you pass walking the Pennine Way, sitting high on the moorlands on Langfield Common. In this screen print I’ve tried to capture the contrasting landscape of the rocky rugged moors with yellow grass with the moor lush green of the lower lying fields going off into the distance.
