Shipley Glen Tramway Card Bradford, West Yorkshire
Shipley Glen Tramway Card Bradford, West Yorkshire
This tram is located just on the outskirts of Saltaire’s Roberts Park and goes up to Shipley Glen, on the edge of Baildon moor. It’s the oldest working tram of it’s type Europe, a narrow-gauge funicular with a little red car and a blue one. It was built in 1895 to make extra money from the mill workers from the Bradford who didn’t want to walk up the the hill to the glen’s Pleasure Grounds, a fairground at the top.
The fair was opened in 1879 and was somewhere I went as a child but sadly closed in 2005. Rides included the Toboggan Run, said to be the “longest, widest, steepest ever erected on Earth”.
