Buttertubs Pass road in the Yorkshire Dales was used as part of the Tour De France here in 2014, and this was part of a set of three were I visited the roads the race would go across. It links Thwaite in Swaledale with Hawes in Wensleydale.
It is said to be named after the deep limestone potholes that farmers placed their butter in to keep it cool, as they rested.
